about

A film by Jimmy Hendrickx & SOUNDTRACK by Blu Simon Wasem

Semalu (which means Sensitive Plant) is a story about the children of Cheras, a suburb in the east of Kuala Lumpur.
A place in the middle of a transitional period of modernization. We see the old part of the neihbourhood getting fastly demoliched, to make way for monotomic impersonal apartment blocks. The lasts peace of jungle in the shadow of a building build yesterday.
Between this noizy landscape of constructions we see the youngest generation being bored and don`t know where to go.

Semalu is the second part of a trilogy in which Jimmy experiments with the formats of cinema and documentary.
Travelling around with his camera, Jimmy tries to build magical stories upon realistic filmfootage.
A surrealistic documentary that tries to show some beauty in a monomic and boring world.
